Our Troop

At 2nd Thatcham, we have a Troop of around 32 Scouts with 4 adult leaders and strong support from a District Team. Although mostly boys, the Troop does have a patrol of girls too.

The Troop meets on Wednesday evenings in Thatcham. During the Summer months most meetings are held away from the Scout HQ.

We run nights away throughout the year including camping weekends and hostel weekends.

The Scout Section is for young people, usually aged between 10½ and 14 years. A young person can come in to the Troop at 10 and may stay until they are 14½ years old. They normally begin the link to the Explorer Scout Unit in the term that they turn 14. The Scout Troop is the third and final Section in the Scout Group.

Our Group

2nd Thatcham Scout Troop is an integral part of the 2nd Thatcham (Greenham Court) Scout Group, whose three sections cater for Scouting for the 5¾ to 14 age range. The Scout Group also operates a Beaver Scout Colony (5¾-8) and a Cub Scout Pack (8-10½). We have our own headquarters and the Group participates in a wider Scouting programme with other Groups in the District. The Group celebrated its fiftieth anniversary in 2005.

Our District

The Group is one of several in Taceham Hundred Scout District, including our friends at 1st Thatcham Scout Group, 1st Cold Ash Scout Group, 1st Hermitage, 1st Compton Scout Group, and 1st Woolhampton Scout Group, all of whom have active Scout Troops which we often have joint activities together.
